  1. Cultural Deficit is a theory that explains and predicts why some students succeed or fail in school.

    Students who succeed have cultural capital because their home lives align more closely with the expectations of school.

    When teachers tend to hold a cultural deficit perspective toward students who come from homes whose values, attitudes, beliefs, daily routines and rituals differ from their own.
